The Great Pyramid of Giza.

Purpose and Significance
The pyramids were primarily built as tombs for pharaohs and their consorts. The ancient Egyptians believed that the pyramids helped the deceased pharaohs ascend to the afterlife and maintain their role as intermediaries between the gods and humanity.
The shape of the pyramid is thought to symbolize the sun's rays and the pharaoh’s journey towards the sun god, Ra, in the afterlife.
2. The Great Pyramid of Giza
Located on the Giza Plateau near Cairo, the Great Pyramid was built for Pharaoh Khufu (also known as Cheops) around 2580–2560 BCE.
This pyramid is the largest and the most famous of the Egyptian pyramids, originally standing at 146.6 meters (481 feet), although it’s now slightly shorter due to erosion.
It is the only remaining structure of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and consists of approximately 2.3 million limestone blocks.
3. Architectural Techniques and Labor
The construction of the pyramids required advanced knowledge of mathematics, astronomy, and engineering. Workers carefully aligned the pyramids to the cardinal points and ensured their stability through intricate internal structures.
Contrary to popular belief, historians generally agree that the workforce consisted of skilled laborers, not enslaved people. These laborers likely worked in rotating shifts and lived in nearby villages built specifically for the workers.
4. Pyramid Complexes
Each pyramid was part of a larger complex that included temples, smaller pyramids for queens, and mastaba tombs for nobility and officials.
The Giza Plateau is home to three major pyramids: the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre (Khufu’s son), and the Pyramid of Menkaure.
5. Mysteries and Discoveries
The pyramids continue to be a subject of intrigue and study, with many mysteries still unsolved. For example, the exact techniques used to transport and place the massive stones remain unknown, though several theories have been proposed.
In recent years, new scanning technologies have revealed hidden chambers within the Great Pyramid, hinting at more secrets to be uncovered.
